Why a picture of a Plane Puller?

Up With Women founder, Lia Grimanis was a homeless teenager struggling to rebuild her life. Now she does whatever she can to help raise awareness in the media about women’s and children’s homelessness. She also became a Guinness World Record holding strong woman to send a message to women and children survivors that “We’re stronger than we think we are”. She has recently been featured on the Today Show, Canada AM and the Discovery Channel demonstrating her strength and helping people to understand the story behind homelessness. You can find some of these media items on our media page

November 24, 2014, in preparation for International day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women, and to raise awareness about the issue, Lia attempted to break a new record by pulling a huge plane. Due to wind and rain, the pull was not possible to complete, but it resulted in a great deal of media attention, which allowed Up With Women to reach our goals for awareness building and to also raise some much needed funds for our programs.
